Progress update on sustainable fishing practices by Maruha Nichiro

Following our news release on July 2, 2021, regarding allegations of illegal activities by two vessels from a joint venture company of our subsidiary (Taiyo Micronesia Corporation), we advise that cooperation and collaboration between our company and relevant authorities in the Federated States of Micronesia resulted in withdrawal of litigation by the Department of Justice for one vessel, and rejection of the case by the Supreme Court for the other.   The cases are closed, but we continue our efforts to ensure people working in our companies and subsidiaries understand the critical importance of abiding by rules and regulations, to have sustainable seafood production.

We have used these allegations, to reinforce the message from our President, Masaru Ikemi, that there is a zero-tolerance approach by Maruha Nichiro to any illegal activities, or actions which undermine sustainable seafood management and ocean health.
