Maruha Nichiro Corporation announces to become a Supporter of Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and Join the TCFD Consortium

August 20, 2021

Maruha Nichiro Corporation announces that it supports the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) and that it has joined the TCFD Consortium, a consortium of companies, financial institutions, and other organizations supporting the recommendations.

The Maruha Nichiro Group has identified “Global Warming Countermeasures” as one of the priority issues in creating “Environmental Value” in the Sustainability Medium- to Long-term Management Plan formulated in 2018. Taking this opportunity to express our support for the TCFD recommendations, we will continue to work on appropriate and proactive disclosure of information on both climate-related risks and opportunities.

By anticipating and responding to the medium- and long-term risks and opportunities posed by climate change, we aim to become a more sustainable corporate Group than we are today.

What is TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosure) ?

TCFD was established in 2015 by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), which is composed of the central banks and financial regulators of major countries. In June 2017, in order to reduce risks associated with destabilizing financial markets, TCFD recommended that companies disclose medium- to long-term business risks and opportunities presented by climate change and the impacts of these risks and opportunities on their financial conditions, as well as specific measures and strategies.
